Master Remodelers is a family-owned remodeling contractor that has served Galveston Island and Galveston County since 1998. We remodel kitchens and bathrooms, build additions, and replace siding, windows and doors on coastal homes, including raised homes, using materials and methods chosen for salt air, wind and flood rules on the island. One team handles your project from the estimate to the final walkthrough.
We’re licensed and insured, rated A+ by the BBB, won the Pulse of the City Award in 2025 and 2026, and back our work with a lifetime workmanship warranty.
Galveston homes face conditions most Houston-area homes don’t. Before we start, we plan for four things:
Galveston County is in the coastal area covered by the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA). To keep a home eligible for TWIA coverage, work that affects the structure, roof, windows, doors or siding generally needs a windstorm certificate showing it meets the building code, which means inspections by a TWIA-appointed engineer while the work is underway. We plan inspections into the schedule so they don’t hold up the job.
Much of the island is in a FEMA flood zone, and many homes are raised on piers. Under the floodplain rules the City of Galveston enforces, a remodel or repair that costs 50% or more of the home’s market value can require bringing the whole house up to current flood standards, including its elevation. We check this before you commit to a scope, so a bigger project doesn’t turn into a surprise.
Salt air corrodes standard fasteners and hardware, and Gulf winds drive rain sideways. On coastal jobs we use corrosion-resistant fasteners and hardware, siding and trim that hold up to moisture, and windows and doors rated for the wind loads in your area.
Homes in Galveston’s historic districts, including the East End, Silk Stocking, Lost Bayou and Downtown/Strand areas, usually need approval from the City of Galveston before exterior changes such as new siding, windows or additions. We help you prepare the drawings and material details for that review.

Usually, if the work affects the structure, roof, windows, doors or siding and you want the home to stay eligible for TWIA windstorm coverage. The work has to be inspected by a TWIA-appointed engineer while it's underway, so plan for it before construction starts.
If a remodel or repair on a home in a flood zone costs 50% or more of the home's market value, floodplain rules can require the whole house to meet current flood standards, including elevation. A contractor should check this before the scope is final.
Fiber cement and engineered wood siding, installed with corrosion-resistant fasteners and good flashing, hold up well to salt air, humidity and wind. Vinyl is the lowest-cost option but can crack or blow off in high winds.
